How to connect Grok or Gemini to Rent Manager

Ask Grok or Gemini about your rent roll, NOI, or delinquency — and get answers from your live Rent Manager database. No exports. No pasting spreadsheets. Grok connects in about a minute; Gemini uses the Gemini CLI today.

The short version

Neither Grok nor Gemini can log into Rent Manager on its own. AskRentAI is the connector in the middle: it holds your Rent Manager API credentials and turns a plain-English question into the right queries. You ask in Grok or Gemini; AskRentAI fetches; the AI explains.

Three steps, start to finish:

  1. Create a Rent Manager API user (or use credentials that already have API access).
  2. Sign up for AskRentAI and connect those credentials.
  3. Add AskRentAI in Grok (app) or Gemini (CLI) and start asking.

What you need first

Step 1 · Rent Manager API user

You can use your own Rent Manager login if it already has API access. A dedicated API user is the safer pattern: cleaner audit trail, easy to revoke, and it can be scoped read-only.

Read-only is enough. AskRentAI never writes to Rent Manager. Read-only access is all it needs.

Step 2 · Sign up for AskRentAI

Go to the signup page and enter your Rent Manager URL, API username, and password. The connection is verified on the spot. The trial is seven days with no card.

Step 3a · Connect in Grok

Grok uses the same OAuth discovery flow as Claude — about a minute, no token to paste unless you prefer one.

  1. Open Settings → Connectors / Integrations → Add MCP server.
  2. Name: AskRentAI. URL: https://api.askrentai.com/mcp
  3. A browser sign-in opens — sign in with your AskRentAI email, click the one-tap link we email you, and approve. Prefer a static token? Paste your rmk_ token as the Bearer instead.
  4. Save, reload the chat, and ask "list my properties."
Don't see "Add MCP server"? Custom connectors in the Grok app require a paid tier (SuperGrok / Premium+). On free, use Claude or paid ChatGPT instead.

Step 3b · Connect in Gemini (CLI)

Google's Gemini CLI added MCP support in 2025. The web Gemini app's MCP UI is still rolling out — the CLI is the most reliable path today.

  1. Install Gemini CLI: npm install -g @google/gemini-cli (or follow Google's current install instructions).
  2. Edit your Gemini CLI config (typically ~/.gemini/config.json). Add an mcpServers entry pointing at https://api.askrentai.com/mcp with your AskRentAI Bearer token (rmk_… from signup). Exact field names follow Gemini CLI's current docs — mirror whatever shape their MCP examples use, with that URL and your token.
  3. Restart any open Gemini sessions.
  4. Ask "list my properties."

The same steps are in the full setup guide.

What to ask first

"What's my occupancy across the whole portfolio right now?"

"Show me delinquency over 30 days, worst properties first."

"Compare NOI this year against last year and tell me what changed."

"Which leases expire in the next 90 days?"
